Calabasas, CA. . In the rodeo world, it's the second most anticipated event behind bull riding. In America, it's arguably the most popular women's sport. It's that rare event where mostly ladies compete, a blend of beauty and grace, speed and control, horse and rider. It's Barrel Racing.
Documentary Producer / Director David Wittkower, whose previous film, Cowboy Up: Inside the Extreme World of Bull Riding which won 8 film festival awards for excellence in sports programming and directing, turns the camera’s to the long over due subject of Barrel Racing. Turn & Burn interviews many NFR riders including Sherry Cervi, Linda Vick, Shali Lord, Liz Pinkston, Tammy Key, Jackie Dube, Lita Scott, Lyndee Stairs to name a few.
“To my knowledge, this is the only film that truly gives people a real idea of what happens in the barrel racing world. It’s certainly not a training video.” Wittkower said. Turn & Burn reveals life after the show is over and the long hauls begin. Access to life with their horses, raising their children, making the money, all this with a race against the clock to win the purse or just move on to the next rodeo.
“The plan is to show the sporting world the sport of Barrel Racing, a sport that is often underestimated in the rodeo world.” With Cowboy Up, Wittkower focused about all the aspects of bull riding. Actor Luke Perry of 90210, and star of the film 8 Seconds narrated.
Wittkower and his co-producer, Fred Martin interviewed barrel racers and attended the Salinas Rodeo in California, the 4D Finals in Reno, Ellensburg Rodeo in Washington state and other events close to California where the film maker is based, due to the budget.
The video runs 65 minutes with added bonus footage of straight barrel racing with audio commentary plus a 2 minute music video montage.
