Marlene's new Butterfly Skirt Design with Marlene’s original semi round rear skirt. The cut out design under the riders legs gives closer contact and feel to the horse. When Marlene got together with legendary saddle maker Howard Council in 1983 to build the best fitting performance saddle for barrel racing, pole bending and more, this was the design they used to maintain the proper amount of balance while reducing weight. Marlene has re-introduced here as a tribute to Howard and all she learned in working with such an incredible craftsman.
Why don't we make a completely round skirted saddle? Skirting on a saddle is an important attribute to fit and balance. If the skirting is cut off the rear section of a saddle it becomes front end heavy and out of balance.
Marlene's Special Effx Saddle System replaces the traditional rigid, solid wood saddle tree with her own custom made Special Effx Saddle Tree that form fits to each horse’s back, greatly improving the fit and allowing her saddles to fit a wider range of horses. It is like a custom fitted saddle for each horse that you ride!
